Autumn Purple Ash

Brilliant Fall Colors to Delight and Astound

The heights we list are after we prune your tree.

Many Nurseries advertise heights before they prune, then cut off several feet before shipping. While this reduces their shipping cost, it give their customer a shorter tree than they bargained for. The tree will likely need an extra year to grow back the growth that was trimmed.

We prune your tree throughout its life. This process takes us longer, but gives you more branches and quicker production.

Plus, we don't include the pot or root length in our measurements. This gives you an extra 1-2 ft. in tree size.

Our larger trees are usually one to two years older than our smaller ones and will typically give you better, thicker shade the first full growing season.

The Autumn Purple Ash turns from a glossy green into red and finally to a brilliant purple in the fall.

The Purple Ash holds its fall color longer than almost any other tree – enjoy the show the entire season!

Large leaves block sunlight, cutting your cooling bills. A regal looking ornamental tree that makes a great focal point for your lawn.

Perfect for lining streets, especially in areas that receive a lot of snow. Salt debris will not harm this beauty.

Autumn Purple Ash trees thrive best in moist areas, but are tolerant of many climates. These deciduous trees usually grow up to 3-5 ft. a year and into a pyramidal shape when young, then flourish into a pleasing oval shape at maturity.

Thrives in northern climates as well as warmer ones, preferring Growing Zones 3-9.

When you order from Fast Growing Trees, you get a higher quality, more attractive tree. Each Autumn Purple Ash tree goes through an extensive grafting process that guarantees incredible fall color. Few other nurseries do this, because it takes an extra year and more labor.

Order while supplies last. Our Purple Ash is a customer favorite and sells out every year!

Why Buy from Fast Growing Trees?

Save Money

Save thousands by shopping in the convenience of your own home instead of paying a landscaper for trees that struggle.

Tree to Door

Receive well developed, large trees and shrubs that thrive in your area.  Varieties that are easy to grow, long lived, and trouble free.  Your plants are clearly marked for size, pruned to a nice pleasing shape, and are delivered right to your doorstep.

No Chemicals

We shun growth regulators and other chemicals that make plants look good in the stores but struggle to survive once planted.

Large Size

Some nurseries charge you for a taller tree then chop 1/3 off, so it will fit in a shorter box. This saves them on shipping but can harm your tree and make you wait longer for it to grow back.

It's Easy to Plant your Autumn Purple Ash

Step 1 - Dig Your Hole

Select a site with full to partial sun and moist or well drained soil for your Autumn Purple Ash.

If you're planting a hedge, mark out a visual guide by placing stakes five to six feet apart and looping string around them. Plant the where the stakes are and they'll grow together to make a dense privacy screen.

First, dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width.

Then loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can easily break through.

Use your shovel or try dragging the points of a pitch fork along the sides and bottom of the hole.

Step 2 - Place Your Plant

Next, separate the roots of your Autumn Purple Ash gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole.

The top of the root flare, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the surrounding soil.

Then make sure the plant is exactly vertical in the hole.

To make it just right, use a level.

Step 3 - Backfill Your Hole

As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets.

Remove debris like stones and grass and completely break up any dirt clumps.

Water your Autumn Purple Ash again after the transplant is complete.

To help retain some of that moisture, it's recommended that you place mulch around each plant to a depth of 2"-3" up to but not touching the trunk. Organic mulches such as wood chips also help to better soil structure as they decompose.

We planted this beautiful tree on our hill and love it! Cant wait til it reaches full maturity and we can enjoy its shade too!

By: Kathy
The first ash tree that I received didnt make it. I called your store and you sent me a replacement tree properly packaged and no broken branches. We planted the tree in our backyard ,Northeast, and this year there were leaves and it had already grown a few inches and had new buds. I am very pleased with my tree and the helpfulness of your staff on replacing the first tree.

By: Steve
Grew nearly 3 ft over 1st year with incredible color. Good quality of new growth as well. Leaves drop early which is a plus for leaf collection in our area. Developed some small mammal damage at base of trunk...will have to keep my eye on it. Nice tree purchase... I would get the autumn purple ash again.

The purple ash is doing just great.. I am very pleased.

By: Scott in Merced, CA
I planted my ash tree along a fenceline that backs up to a flood basin. It hasnt grown as fast as I would have liked, but it is doing well and shows promise for surviving the second winter in Central CA.

By: Nadene
I am amazed at how quickly this tree is growing, even here in Montana. It grew about 2 1/2 feet this past year, it still needs to fill out a bit, but I am very pleased with the overall growth.

Easy to plant, easy maintenance, doing great.

By: Carole Massey
I purchased two Autumn Purple Ash. One is doing beautifully, has grown taller and leafed out. The other has died. It never showed any signs of life after being planted. They both received the same care.

By: Curt
When I purchased this tree it was approx. 5 ft. tall. In about 1.5 years it has grown to about 8 feet tall. Very healthy looking, promising tree that we hope to prune such that the tree will shade the entire side of our house. Wished I had heard of Fast Growing Trees 12 years ago when we first bought our home.

By: Kat
I bought this Autumn Purple Ash 2 1/2 years ago. While its still alive, it has not grown at all. Not sure what they mean by "fast growing".

By: Tina Keep
My Autumn Purple Ash is looking beautiful.

By: Karianne
We planted two of these last fall, and this spring when it warmed up saw a lot of growth quite quickly. In the last three months they've grown about two feet, they seem do be doing quite well.

By: John
Have purchased and planted this tree twice. Both times never any sign of life. Disappointed. (I have a Tulip Poplar, Eucalyptus and Royal Empress that are all doing well).
